A Solar Luncheon
Let the sun be your inspiration and your oven! Building a simple solar oven is easier than you think! You can find instructions in my summer solstice book, or a simpler pizza box version all over the internet, or you can buy a fancier version online. It is truly amazing to be able to cook with the sun (and not heat up the house) on a hot summer day. The Summer Solstice, being the longest day of all, is the perfect time to make a solar luncheon!

Sun Kissed Recipes:
- Sun Tea
- Solar Oven Pizzas
- Sun Dried Grapes
- SUNflower Seeds (ok this one is cheating a little!)

Midsummer’s Eve Soiree
One of my earliest memories of the Summer Solstice is the John Singer Sargent painting below. It was on the cover of a magazine and said something about Midsummer’s Eve and has forever been linked to the solstice in my mind ever since. It looked so magical and amazing, I couldn’t stop thinking what an amazing thing a Midsummer’s Eve party must be! And now that I am a grown up I can have magical parties whenever I want! Twilight is a special time in the summer, it’s so much cooler, but still retains that haziness in the air. Perfect for a magical summer soiree.

Decorations, Food & Activities:
- Craft some Solar Lanterns to light up the twilight!
- Everyone needs a Flower Crown of course.
- Make magical Wishing Boats.
- Make a Feast fit for the fairies

Garden Party
A garden party is the perfect way to celebrate the summer’s bounty! Have this party in or near your garden and encourage everyone to decorate their hats with flowers! It’s a great time of year to exchange plants and starts and honestly what better place to talk about plants and gardens than at a garden party? Keep the menu similarly garden focused with sweet and savory treats from the garden. Craft some recycled garden markers and ask everyone to bring a flower or two from their own gardens to make a big collaborative arrangement for the table– keeping the community spirit going!

Recipes & Crafts:
- Serve Garden Party Tea and Cakes fresh from the garden, or even better, in the garden!
- Make Garden Fairy Toasts with your garden spoils.
- Craft recycled Plant Markers
- Host a Seed and Plant Swap
- Wear fancy plant adorned hats!
- Ask each guest to bring a bloom from their garden and fill a vase with everyone’s beautiful flowers.

Summer Solstice Sun Celebration
The sun is main attraction on the Summer Solstice so celebrate it in a big way! Sun catchers, sundials, sunny snacks and more. If you are going to spend the sunniest day out in the sun, you also may want to set up a sprinkler to run through and break out some lawn games. Popsicles and lemonade will help cool everyone down!

Sunny Recipes & Crafts:
- Craft some Sun Catchers to “catch” the sun
- Work together to make a big outdoor Sundial
- Bake up a batch of Summer Sun Cookies
- Sip lemonade and enjoy frosty Sunny Orange Mint Popsicles
- Play lawn games and run through a sprinkler!
- Decorate the table with prisms to cover it in rainbows (aka visible sunlight!)
